LESSON: Grade 4 Subject Area: Colorado History Content Standard: Lesson Title: Class or Grade Level Glogster Posters Time needed: 5 days - 50 min. sections Short description of the lesson: Use Glogster as an online communication tool. As a real world audience, 4th think about what would be important for a 5th grade student (from another place) working on a state report as a research project to know about a geographic region or groups of people from Colorado history. Then they create an individual Glogster about the region or group they choose. They research using electronic (World Book and Doing History Keeping the Past) and print resources to determine what is important about each topic. Some questions they focus on might be: what part of Colorado, why is it important to Colorado, what is unique or interesting, or how was Colorado changed. After researching the team chooses 3 key points to explain and represent their group or region. They used a story board to sketch their poster before looking for images and creating their glogster poster. They use images from World Book, Doing History Keeping the Past, and Creative Commons to search for pictures and video to upload. They can insert voice and sound as well. The topic posters are saved privately and linked to a public glogster of a map in Colorado that is linked to the grade level web page as well as being public for comment on Glogster. Online application used & other possibilities (include notes like: use the “edu version”, you can create your students’ accounts) http://edu.glogster.com I created a generic school login and all of the posters are saved and linked through the same glogster login. What hardware and software is needed?Computer lab or laptops, Glogster login Student example: http://rufus991.edu.glogster.com/colorado-history/

Short description of the lesson:
PhET provides fun, interactive, research-basedsimulations of physical phenomena for free.
To help students visually comprehend concepts, PhET simulations animate what is invisible to the eye through the use of graphics and intuitive controls such as click-and-drag manipulation, sliders and radio buttons. In order to further encourage quantitative exploration, the simulations also offer measurement instruments including rulers, stop-watches, voltmeters and thermometers. LESSON Grade: 5 Subject Area: Science, Social Studies, literacy Content Standard:Lesson Title: Prezi pulls it all together Time needed: 3-5 days Short description of the lesson: Choose a content area that requires sequential thinking and fact finding. After giving background information, assign students to share what they have learned using a prezi! ( ie. Food chains, plant life cycles, storytelling) There are great tutorials at the prezi website, and you can upload anything onto your presentation ( videos, comics, photographs, sound) You will need to create an account and play around with the zebra tool which maybe confusing, but students will be naturals! There are countless examples in the gallery that you can edit ( if the user has given you permission) so you don’t have to start completely from the beginning.
